Here are a few Thai phrases in Thai, English meaning and our phonetic version of how it should be spoken.
Males say krub, females say kaa after most phrases as either thank you or please.
sawadee krub/kaa - greeting, hello
sabaidee mai - how are you
sabaidee krub/kaa - I’m fine thanks
kop khun krub/kaa - thank you
aharn - food
lan aharn - restaurant
nam - water
nam prao - bottled water
bier - beer (so I’m told)
kin kao - eat a meal (rice)
tow rai krub/kaa - how much please
peng mak - very expensive
tuk mak - very cheap
1 - nung
2 - song
3 - sam
4 - see
5 - ha
555 - funny (ha ha ha, sorry we do that here as foreigners)
6 - hoch
7 - jet
8 - baird
9 - gow
10 - sip
20 - yeesip
30 - samsip
50 - hasip
100 - nung loi (should be nung roi but Thai slang prevails)
200 - song loi
500 - ha loi
1,000 - nung pan
2,000 - song pan
10,000 nung sen
